Located just below the famous Matterhorn mountain, the Swiss resort town of Zermatt is a truly unique destination that you simply must visit. This village has a long and illustrious history of being a high-altitude ski & mountaineering resort, often attracting thousands of visitors from all over the globe every year. 

Zermatt offers stunning views of the Swiss Alps and the Matterhorn mountain all year round. Depending on the season, travellers can take part in all sorts of recreational activities there. For example, you can choose to hike along five mountain lakes (aptly named the 5 Lakes Hike), all of which provide superb and unobstructed photo opportunities of the abovementioned alps and mountain. Due to the low incline, this trail is perfect for families or large groups. During wintertime or ski season, you can have a blast skiing down over 300 kilometres of pistes, while enjoying the natural scenery around you. 

The town is also renowned for being car-free, to prevent air pollution from obstructing the breath-taking views of the mountain ranges. To get to Zermatt, you may choose various transportation options: by rail, taxi, or even helicopter. If you are driving, you will be required to park at Täsch, a transfer point located close to the town, before continuing on your journey via the other forms of transport.

As Zermatt is a high-altitude municipality, we advise you to prepare plenty of warm clothing, with temperatures going as low as -7.7 degrees Celsius in January, and topping at just under 20 degrees Celsius in July.
